How Do I use the Blackboard Course Management System?

Classroom Organization

 

On the left side of your window are the NAVIGATION buttons.

 

The Start Here area will contain your course Syllabus, evaluation criteria for each of the graded assignments, and other information relevant to the structure and expectations of the course.

 

Your class is entirely online and the Discussion Board area is where you will post comments and Discussion Board Posts.

 

The Learning Units area will contain assignment instructions, quizzes, exams, and review materials. Read the schedule in the syllabus to find out in which Learning Unit you will be able to find assignment instructions, quizzes, exams, and review materials for specific chapters. All assignments for online classes must be submitted through the Assignments area as .doc or .rtf file attachments by the deadline in the syllabus, or you will not receive credit for the assignment. ***************************************

 

How Do I Get Help with the Blackboard System ? How Do I Get Help for computer or technical problems?

Yes, in that it is part of our articulation agreement with the UC and

CSU systems. This could transfer to most private colleges

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO GET AN "A" IN THIS COURSE?

 

To get an "A" in my courses, your total points from quizzes, exams, discussion board posts, and  homework assignments must be 90% or better.

IS CLASS ATTENDANCE MANDATORY?

 

Attendance is mandatory for online classes. Attendance in online classes is based on participation in the classes by taking quizzes, exams, submitting assignments, and submitting discussion board posts.

Read the textbook for a list of terms.

DO I NEED TO READ THE TEXTBOOK?

 

YES. All quizzes and exams are based on the textbook.

CAN I USE THAT INSTEAD OF THE NEW ONE?

 

Everything on the exams comes from the current edition of the

textbook.

MAY I TAKE EXAMS IN THE DISABLED STUDENT PROGRAMS AND SERVICES (DSPS)?

 

Students must submit DSPS paper work to the instructor (there is a deadline on the syllabus) in order to take exams and quizzes at DSPS.

 

You must arrange with the instructor at least 1 week in advance to take exams at DSPS.

HOW SHOULD I STUDY FOR THE EXAMS?

 

     1/   read the textbook

 

     2/   use the online study guide (if available) to review textbook material

 

     3/   use the printed version of the study guide (if available)as well 

 

     4/   read the review materials in the Learning Units area of Blackboard (if available)

 

     5/   review your notes and reading material for overlap

 

     6/   make flash cards for terms in each section of material,

          quiz yourself and use as many review tools as possible

"I missed class, did we do anything important?" ANSWER: Yes!

 

"I missed the deadline, can I turn it in late?" ANSWER: No!

 

"But I have a great excuse, do you want to hear it?" ANSWER: No!

 

"When are your office hours?"   ANSWER: listed on the syllabus

 

"When is the assignment due?"   ANSWER: listed on the syllabus

 

"Is my room mate / ex-significant other crazy?"  ANSWER: Possibly

 

"What does my dream /my behavior/ my child's behavior/ my friend's

HOW CAN I FIND OUT MY GRADE AFTER THE SEMESTER IS OVER?

 

There are several acceptable ways:

 

First,  you can look for your grades online at the SBVC  Web Advisor website.

 

Second, check your Blackboard Course Management system for the My Grades area and check your grade there.
